Mat Sabu passes debate baton to PAS Youth
Paul Warren: I honestly cannot understand this Bukit Kepong issue. When I studied history of another time period in Malaysia, James Birch was a hero who was killed by a nut case called Maharajalela.
Even the picture depicted in my history book showed Birch in one of those thatched toilet hut over a river, with Maharajalela approaching with a spear or something.
Today, of course, Maharajalela is the hero and Birch the villain. Even Jalan Birch in Kuala Lumpur has become Jalan Maharajalela.
So the Bukit Kepong story too has got to be seen in that light. To nationalists who were fighting the British for independence, would not the police at Bukit Kepong be seen as defending the enemy?
Iban Warrior: It's really strange looking at the mentality of people who consider those who conspire with the colonialists as heroes, when it is more logical that such people should be considered stooges and traitors.
Armageddon: Most of our history books were written by the British, so it is a fair assumption that heroes were those who took the side of the British. If you were against the British, you were the crooks.
Who were the British? They were not heroes, but colonialist.
Anonymous: Now it makes sense. Mat Indera was the hero. The British and their cronies were enemies of the country. Thanks PAS deputy president Mat Sabu, for enlightening the rakyat.
Multi Racial: Khairy is hungry for the limelight. Just don't give it to him. He is having his own problems with Umno; let them resolve it themselves.
As for PAS, focus on the bigger issue and let Umno take care of trivial one. You know they are very good at making small issues into big ones.

DannyLoHH: Umno is spinning everything, even an invitation by PAS is being spun. Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin's condition of accepting the debate is not a sincere one, for the person who issued the debate challenge was PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, not Mat Sabu.
But Khairy made it sounds like Mat Sabu who was the one challenging Umno for a debate.
Ferdtan: KJ has to go to great lengths just to stay relevant in Umno. He is not even sure that he has a seat to contest in the next GE, in spite of being an Umno Youth leader. He is smart, no doubt - he is trying to get as much publicity as possible by issuing challenges here and there.
KJ, as you are young and not even born until 19 years after Merdeka. You are not the right candidate to talk about historical issues. We need much older participants who have live during the pre-Merdeka era so as to have real inputs into the 'real' history that we have not learned.
If you have lived through that era, then you can get that emotive feel; and would understanding the finer nuances of true history, without such bias found in our history books.
Ally Meme: Khairy thinks too highly of himself. He is a nobody in Umno, snubbed even by his own masters. There is no point debating with him.
Onyourtoes: Khairy, your brain does not seem to indicate you have graduated from Oxford. Mat Sabu is actually telling you that you do not have the standing to debate with the deputy president of a political party that is more influential than Umno.
Gerard Samuel Vijayan: Since Mat Sabu is the PAS deputy president, Khairy should offer the Umno deputy president Muyhiddin Yassin for the debate.
When Anwar challenged Najib to a debate, the PM avoided the issue while Khairy offered himself instead. Why should Mat Sabu waste his time on this Umno Youth upstart whose days in politics are numbered?
Khairy should instead debate with Mahathir, Muhyiddin and Mukhriz Mahathir, who are all out for his blood.
Loyal Malaysian: Yes, I agree with Khairy. Mat Sabu is a coward. He has spoken on the Bukit Kepong controversy; he should be man enough to debate his detractors.
Vijay47: With the kind of bravery, heroism, daring, fearlessness, gallantry, valour, and the whole nine yards that Khairy displays, while freely labelling others as cowards, alas what a pity that he did not go to Somalia to teach those brigands a thing or two.
Why, even their pirates would have ceased and desisted and vowed to sin no more! On the local scene, I hear that you will soon embark on a roadshow to attack Mat Sabu on his comments in respect of the Bukit Kepong battle.
Perhaps for a change of pace and tone you could regale the crowd of your father-in-law's exploits in Mustique in the St Vincent Isles where he single-handedly took on all manner of sharks, marlins, and other creatures of the deep - the natives will love it.
By the way, don't forget to bring along your Mat Rempit friends. They also will love it, as long as you don't speak England.
Lets Be Fair: Khairy, stop playing a kid's game on morality. Go for the fundamental issues like the ones requested by Bersih for a free and fair election; these are the stuff that affect the true moral fibre in this country.
Anonymous: Khairy's head is filled with the crap dished out by Umno. I am a living witness of the period of history in contention, sans the Umno's revisionism - Mat Sabu is right.
PassiveResistance: Mat Sabu may not be a YB or whatnot, but he has plenty of grey matter and common sense. Khairy, you being the Umno Youth chief and MP for Rembau could not even convince your own party president for a deputy ministerial appointment.
Instead, Razali Ibrahim, your deputy in Umno Youth, was given a deputy minister post. Are you incapable in the eyes of Umno? I think so. So, perhaps PAS should just get any PAS members to debate with you.
Mr KJ John: My friend, in boxing they have different weight categories to ensure an equal match. I think the one you challenged asked for you to pick someone of your own weight category.
