KULIM, March 9 — BMW Group Malaysia today rolled out the last unit of its 5th-generation BMW 3 series at its assembly plant here.

To date a total of 10,743 units of the car had been sold in the country, of which 8,930 were assembled locally.

“Since its inception in 1975, the BMW 3 series has become an icon for entire generations of car enthusiasts. The 5th-generation BMW 3 series was no exception,” said BMW Group Malaysia managing director Geoffrey Briscoe in a statement.

He said the 5th-generation car has been BMW’s number one seller, responsible for the highest and the best performing segment from the company’s total global sales volume since its introduction in 2006.

More than 12 million units of the BMW 3 series has been sold worldwide since its introduction in 1975. It won the “World’s Car of the Year Award” at the New York International Automobile Show in 2006 as well as many more accolades over the years.

Briscoe said the company was looking forward to the introduction of the 6th-generation BMW 3 series, which had its international launch in October 2011.
