GEORGE TOWN: Star Wars came to Queensbay Mall here, much to the delight of fans of the science-fiction movie.

Fourteen people came to the mall yesterday afternoon dressed as various characters from the movie for a 15-minute freeze mob at the mall’s central atrium.

Their presence attracted the attention of shoppers, many of whom took the opportunity to pose for photographs with the characters which included Darth Vader, the Imperial Guards, Storm Troopers, Jedis and Siths.

To hype things up, those who came dressed as Jedis and Siths engaged in a lightsaber duel performance prior to the freeze mob. Their sabers emitted buzzing sounds, just as in the movie.

College student Low Ken Ho, 19, who came dressed as a Sith, said it was a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience for him.

The event was organised by the mall in conjunction with the current re-run of the The Phantom Menace from the Star Wars series in digital 3D and to honour the series.

Darth Vader and two Storm Troopers also made their appearance
The mall’s marketing communications manager, Wendy Wong, said the series had created a sense of awe and wonder for generations of moviegoers.

“We are thrilled to have this opportunity to bring its iconic characters here,” she said.

The freeze mob was open to the public and those who came dressed as Star Wars characters got to redeem one GSC movie ticket to Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace 3D.
