The Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry has assured that Malaysia's rice supply remains stable despite massive flooding in Thailand.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Noh Omar today urged the public not to resort to panic buying as the situation is under control.
The government had also been steadily stockpiling rice.
Furtheremore, he said the country is not dependent on Thailand alone as Malaysia also imports rice from India, Vietnam, Pakistan, Uruguay and Argentina.
Yesterday, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra declared that rice supply from Thailand would likely drop by four million tonnes due to floods.
