PAS Youth calls for Friday weekend

Petaling Jaya : PAS Youth has called on the Government to declare Friday as the weekend holiday instead of Sunday to reflect Islamic spirit.

Its chief Nasrudin Hassan also said that Johor and Perlis should revert to a Friday holiday.

This was among seven measures proposed during the PAS Youth meeting on Saturday which focused on Islamic faith.

“We also proposed that the Education Ministry make it compulsory to pass the Islamic Religious subject at all levels,” he said.

Nasrudin said the Youth wing had set up an Anti-Proselytisation Action Front (Forkad) to check attempts to “weaken the Muslims”.

“We call upon the relevant authorities to increase funding to deploy preachers to remote areas, indigenous settlements, Sabah and Sarawak.

“We also call upon the authorities to increase the number of religious officials in all sectors so that Islamic propagation could be carried out systematically,” he said.

PAS Youth also called for the Anti-Apostasy Act to be passed in Parliament.

Nasrudin said it was a pity that PAS leaders’ motion to discuss apostasy in Parliament in 1988, 1999, and 2006 was rejected, adding that the problem had become quite serious.
