Kampung Baru's 'bubur lambuk' still a hit

KUALA LUMPUR: Every evening since the start of Ramadan, long queues can be seen at a bubur lambuk stall in Kampung Baru and the customers include non-Malays.

"I have been selling this savoury porridge for some years and it's gratifying that my customers are not just Malays," said Sarimah Ishak who opens the stall after Asar prayers at about 5pm.

"The bubur lambuk is based on a traditional recipe of my grandmother and has 18 ingredients, including spices and meat like chicken and beef. I charge RM2 per packet and on good days, I can sell a few hundred packets."

Sarimah said her husband and his friends also help distribute the porridge at other places.

"It's a lot of hard work preparing the bubur lambuk but it's nice to see that all Malaysians love it."

One of her ardent customers was 32-year-old Allan Ng who said: "Sarimah cooks the porridge with very little preservatives and boils it just right. This meal is healthy and it's too bad that it's only available once a year."
