PETALING JAYA: Actress and TV host Nur Fazura Sharifuddin (pic) is putting her foot down once and for all, and has declared she will no longer answer any rumours about her private life.
Unhappy with the latest gossip, she told The Malay Mail: “Since beginning my career in TV and film in 2004, I have been in the news for matters which do not contribute to my growth as an actress. I understand as a public figure, almost nothing is sacred and I have been too accommodating for too long. Now I feel it’s time to put an end to this as at this point of my life, I want to flourish in the career path I have chosen. Responding to hearsay is time-consuming, unbeneficial and unnecessary."
Fazura, who will be 28 on Sept 27, was recently embroiled in a controversy with newcomer actress Neelofa Mohd Noor who was alleged to have revealed she was involved in a “love triangle” with a VVIP.
While Neelofa, 21, has vehemently denied she was the source of the gossip, more reports have surfaced of a supposed confrontation between the two women regarding this problem.
Despite that, the gossip has persisted, and Fazura said: “I have nothing to do with Neelofa, and I don’t mean that in a rude way. I just don’t fancy gossip that I am trying to eliminate competition by putting Neelofa down. She is not a threat to me. No one is. My only competition is myself. I am hard on myself to better myself, and honestly, Neelofa doesn’t figure in my life at all.”
Neelofa, the Dewi Remaja 2010 champion, is contracted to KRU Studios and currently hosts the Paparazzi segment of KRU TV, a web-based entertainment news programme.
Fazura said there is no truth to talk that she is "attacking" Neelofa to gain attention.
“Am I that influential? Let me put it this way. For the same reason I have decided to close this chapter in my life and not answer any more questions after this, I am not going to bother with whatever anyone has to say about this after this,” said Fazura whose film and TV credits include 2005's Gol & Gincu (spun off into a TV series in 2006 and 2008) and 2009's Pisau Cukur.
“I have a long way to go as an actress, and I have much to learn. I’d rather spend my time perfecting my craft. It has been a busy year with new movies, TV productions and endorsement responsibilities. So, I will no longer waste an iota of my attention, energy or time, to put up with nonsensical attempts to make my private life a three-ring circus for the benefit of others in whatever way.”
She added that she is happy with her private life apart from “some unnecessary attention-seeking attempts of outsiders to capitalise on my situation".
"I will not cheapen myself or sink that low for the sake of publicity or attention," said the Pahang-born actress who was charged for assaulting housewife Geraldine Mariana Wong at a bar in 2004 in KL but found not guilty.
“For the last time, I apologise to the media as I will no longer entertain questions related to my personal life, or more specifically on Neelofa and whatever related time-wasting distractions.”
