Kate Middleton and Prince William at KLCC Park on Sept 14

KUALA LUMPUR: Chances are that you will not be among the select group invited to a private tea-party hosted for Prince William and Kate Middleton at the British High Commissioner’s residence on Sept 14.

But you can catch a glimpse of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge when they go on a “cultural walkabout” at the KLCC Park that morning.

British High Commissioner Simon Featherstone, who announced this yesterday, said the event would be open to all.

“I know the couple are eagerly anticipating experiencing the warm welcome, rich cultural diversity and stunning natural environment of a key Commonwealth country,” he told a press conference yesterday.

The royal couple are scheduled to arrive at the KL International Airport at mid-day on Sept 13 for their three-day visit.

Providing details of the visit, Featherstone said the official events would include a dinner hosted by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah at Istana Negara and lunch by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at Seri Perdana.

He said The Duke and Duchess will also grace a business luncheon organised by the British-Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) at the KL Convention Centre on Sept 14.

The highlight will be the Duchess delivering her first overseas speech at Hospis Malaysia on Sept 13, where she will also launch a palliative paediatrics care programme.

In Sabah, the royal couple will go deep into the rainforests of Danum Valley to observe the conservation efforts by the Royal Society, of which Prince William is a Fellow.

Meanwhile, the two lucky winners of the Ultimate Royal-Tea Photo Competition will be revealed on Friday.

Malaysians are welcomed to post their messages or questions for the royal couple on the British High Commission’s website http://ukinmalaysia.fco.gov.uk/en/ or Facebook page www.facebook.com/bhckl or tweet them with the hastag #royalvisit.
