Cheers for Chong Wei, boos for Lin Dan (VIDEO)


PETALING JAYA: There was definitely no lack of support for Datuk Lee Chong Wei despite playing the Olympic badminton final thousands of kilometres away from Malaysia.

Laundry Bar at The Curve transformed into Wembley Arena as fans gathered in droves to watch their favourite shuttler in action at a viewing party organised by Samsung.

There was a festive air as they waved flags, blew trumpets and painted their faces with the Jalur Gemilang as they cheered for Chong Wei.

The bar was packed but it did not prevent shoppers from crowding outside its perimeters to watch the action on the giant screen.

When Chong Wei won the first set, the crowd went into a euphoric mood. The carnival atmosphere continued even when Chong Wei lost the second set the spirited crowd did not lose hope.

There were chants of “Lee Chong Wei! Lee Chong Wei!”.

The jeers for Lin Dan was no less enthusiastic. The crowd booed each time the player from China scored a point or when there was a close-up of his face.

In the end, Chong Wei lost in a tightly-fought match.




Although disappointed, the crowd gave a rousing applause for Chong Wei and chanted “Malaysia Boleh”.

“It was so close! But I am very proud of Chong Wei because he gave his best tonight,” said Alan Lim.

Three lucky fans won Samsung mobile phones.


Samsung head of mobile phone division Vincent Chong also announced a treat for Malaysians Samsung Galaxy SIII will be sold at 10% discount on Aug 8.
