Tunku's nephew calls on Mat Sabu to apologise

ALOR SETAR: A nephew of Malaysia's first prime minister has urged PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu to apologise openly for rejecting the role played by Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj in the fight for independence.

Datuk Tengku Zainol Rashid Tengku Yahya said Mohamad Sabu, or better known as Mat Sabu, had hurt the feelings of the family of Tunku Abdul Rahman.

He also slammed Mat Sabu, saying his statement was uncalled for.

"Tunku's eloquence and wit managed to convince the British to grant independence, the fruit of which we are enjoying today.
"Mat Sabu should be grateful for living in this peaceful country and not trying to distort history," he told a news conference.

Tengku Zainol Rashid said as responsible citizens, Malaysians should be grateful to the sacrifices of Tunku Abdul Rahman.

"There is no need for politicians to play up this issue to gain mileage and confuse the people. I hope this issue will no longer arise in the future," he said.

He called on the government to take action to deter others from playing up such issue.
